Planning a road trip to Samaria? Remember to stop by our cellar door. We are sure you will agree our robust and full flavour wines are exceptional value! As quoted recently:
When you sit at the top of a hill sipping a glass of our wine at the end of the day, just surveying the landscape you can’t help but think “We live in a beautiful part of our country”.
The land is home to so many animals which are fascinating to behold and simultaneously can create challenges to work around. We share the environment and grow our grapes. Our wine comes from the land; we make it, we drink it, we live it. And gee it tastes great.
Described by James Halliday as having ‘unmistakable’ character, Kooyonga Creek Wines has established itself as a destination for any wine fan wanting to try Victoria’s diverse range of wines.
One of the many hidden gems of the Alpine Valley Wine region, Kooyonga Creek Wines is a family owned boutique winery started by Pam and Barry Saunders. Attention to detail in the winery is meticulous where a combination of the latest technology and traditional methods culminate in a range of fine quality wines that are unique to the region.
With first plantings in 2000 the vineyard shares equal areas of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. A mild climate extends the ripening period adding to the complexity and intensity of flavours in the grapes.
The Chardonnay was awarded a Bronze medal at the Royal Melbourne show. Peachy and vanilla flavours linger like a childhood memory. The Shiraz is dark, deep and velvety. It is perfect on its own or to accompany a meal. The Sparkling Shiraz is an original offering that wine enthusiasts are unlikely to find anywhere else. Produced using traditional champagne methods, this Sparkling Shiraz pop is in a class of its own.
Kooyonga Creek Wines is the gift you receive from someone who thinks you have great taste.
With a view that can only be rivalled by Pinterest and Photoshop, a visit to the vineyard and cellar door is a stunning glimpse of an authentic Victorian landscape. Pam and Barry welcome you to visit and experience their range of boutique wines from estate vines.
The Kooyonga Creek cellar door is open on Friday-Sunday, 9am – 4pm or call for an appointment.
We have just finished the 2014 vintage. All of the reds are finally in their barrels, some of the Chardonnay is on oak and the Sauv Blanc is ready for bottling when we have a moment. It is shaping up as a very good vintage which will be confirmed by the reds aging gently in barrels for about fifteen months and absorbing some vanilla and earthy characteristics from the oak.
To celebrate the end of vintage we did a bottling run. 27,000 bottles in a day, manually unloaded onto the bottling line at one end and manually packed into pins at the other end. Any volunteers for the next run would be welcome.
Welcome to the new website for the Kooyonga Creek Winery. We thought it was time for a bit of an update and have had fun creating an easier experience to by wine from us. Also, we now have the back vintages from our old brand Kooyonga Chapel available for sale as well.
The Kooyonga Creek Winery is located in the foothills of the Alpine Ranges of North East Victoria. The winery is 20 acres planted with equal areas of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. First plantings were in 2000. The mild climate extends the ripening period and adds to the complexity and intensity of flavour in the grapes. Attention to detail from the first planting has been meticulous, culminating in a range of fine quality wines.
Kooyonga Creek is a small winery owned and operated by the Saunders family. Several generations ago, prospectors searched for gemstones hidden in the creeks on what is now the Kooyonga farm. When the Saunders family settled on the property, they discovered another gem in the form of some very special soil.
‘From this earth come the wines of Kooyonga Creek. Inspired by the mild climate and long growing season, we allow our wines the time needed to develop intensity and complexity.’
